Welcome to Smokin Scooters!
Welcome to Smokin Scooters! My wife and I are the proud parents of two kids who absolutely love to ride scooters. We are lucky to have several phenomenal skate parks locally, most of which are frequented every weekend by our kids. As our kids got more into riding scooters, we noticed that there is a huge market for scooters and custom scooter parts not only in our neck of the woods, but around the country.
Our mission is simple: to provide the best products and service to our customers at the lowest prices possible. You will typically save 5 - 15% off EVERYTHING we sell. We take great pride in our company, our commitment to customer service and in the products we sell.
What our customers are saying about us!
It has been a pleasure shopping on your site, and my son says you
guys are the best. Thank you for making shopping easy for us that don't know
anything about what is required to build a scooter and what fits together, the
site has an amazing amount of information.
I just wanted to include a note to thank you for your help with my
Grandson's scooter. He picked out everything himself and his first words to me
after he finished were "I love you Grandpa". This will make his
Christmas and hearing those words from him certainly made mine. As President of
a manufacturing business, I have dealt with a lot of suppliers and sales
people, but my experience with you has been one of the best. The one small
problem we did have, you took care of immediately and were able to get me all
of the parts in time for Christmas. I wilsh you all the success you deserve and
hope that you have a wonderful Christmas.
Thank you for keeping your customers updated as to the status of
their orders. This is what "Customer Service" is all about and what
makes American small business owners the best of the best.
Frequently asked questions
How do I contact Smokin Scooters? My wife and I are the only employees at Smokin Scooters and spend most of our day in the warehouse processing orders. With that said, it is very difficult for us to get to the phone so PLEASE EMAIL US FOR THE QUICKEST RESPONSE TIMES at support@smokinscooters.com. We answer most emails within an hour.
What is your return policy? We do not accept exchanges/returns at this time. No exceptions.
Do you ship internationally? We do not ship internationally at this time.
How long will it take to get my products once my order has been placed? We ship all domestic orders within 2 business days of receiving payment. Please allow 3 - 7 business days to receive your order. We ship out of 2 warehouses and, in many cases, we can get your order to you within a couple of business days.
If you don't have something in stock right now, how long will it take you to get it back in? Unfortunately, most of what we sell comes in from overseas. We receive shipments approximately once every 6 weeks. If we run out of something, it most likely won't be back in
for a month or two.
Do products that we purchase on your website carry a warranty?
Most products sold in the US carry a warranty. Each manufacturer has a warranty that is unique to their products. Please see the manufacturer's website for warranty information.
How do I submit a warranty claim? Only domestic (US) orders qualify for warranty claims. Our distributors handle ALL warranty claims. Contact us when you believe you have a valid warranty claim. We will review it and, if deemed a valid warranty claim, we will put you in touch with the appropriate distributor or manufacturer.
Do you stock everything you sell? We stock all products that we sell in multiple warehouses across the country. All items will be be shipped within 2 business days of being ordered.
What happens if a product that I ordered is backordered? First,we will work with you to determine if there is an acceptable alternative product that you would like to purchase. If not, we will refund your payment for the backordered item as soon as we are aware of the backorder. Please allow up to 2 business days for the credit to be charged back to your credit card. Please note that MOST refunds will take 24 - 48 hours to process. If you paid with PAYPAL, they take 3 - 5 business days days to process your refund.
Why doesn't your search engine pull up the product that I'm searching on? For some reason, the search engine defaults to sort from A - Z. If you change the search to BY RELEVANCY, it will pull up the produc that you searched for.
DEBIT CARD DOUBLE CHARGE - Why did I get charged twice when I paid with my debit card? When you pay with a debit card, the bank authorizes your card, just like on a credit card. Unfortunately, with a debit card, the authorization gets pulled out of your account. Then the bank, just like a credit card, pulls out the funds for the actual payment. The authorization will drop off your card within 3 - 5 business days, at which point the funds will be put back into your account.
If at all possible, please do not pay with a debit card. When you pay with a debit card, you get frustrated because of the "double charge" and we get frustrated by getting yelled at for 5 business days until the authorization drops off.
How can I find out more about the products you sell? Check out our YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/smokinscooterz#p/u. We do video product reviews of just about every product we sell. We also post installation tutorials out on the YouTube channel frequently. If you want us to put together a tutorial, shoot us an email at support@smokinscooters.com and we'll throw one together for you.
Will I have to pay sales tax? Texas residents pay sales tax.
Can I track my order? If you have created an account with us, you can log in after your order has been
placed to track your order. We typically receive tracking numbers from our shipping department within 24 hours of receiving your order and update your order with the tracking number once we have received it.
What is the best way to learn about current promotions that you have going on? Follow us on Twitter or Like us on Facebook. We typically have a weekly coupon good for 5 - 10% off a product line for a given week. Follow us or Like us and you'll get automatic updates every time we discount a product. Why didn't you responded to the question that I posted on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter?
We get over 100 Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube questions each day. While we attempt to respond to them in a timely manner, shipping orders takes precedence over asking questions.
We delete comments on Facebook or Twitter that are inappropriate. If you feel the need to insult me, slam my kids, use profanity, or just can't type a sentence, I'm not going to respond. We approve all comments on YouTube, which is why you don't see your question show up immediately. If your comment was inappropriate, we'll simply delete it. If you slam my kids, which quite a few people like to do, I'll block your social media access. Bottom line, if you want your question answered, leave out the profanity and insults.
Do you assemble products before you ship them out?For liability purposes, we do not perform any assembly. This includes putting bearings in wheels, cutting bars, installing headsets, etc. All parts ordered will arrive unassembled.
I'm a parent buying for my kid. What do I NEED to buy to build a complete scooter?
Bars
- 22" Tall by 18" is a fairly typical size. Razor
Ultra Pro bars are 21" tall by 14" wide. - Standard bars have diameter of 1 1/4". Oversized bars
are typically 1 3/8". Most customers buy standard bars with a standard
clamp. If you buy oversized bars, you must also buy an oversized clamp. 90% of
the bars and clamps that we sell are standard. - If you use a 2, 3, or 4 bolt clamp, you will need a slit on
the bars and an ICS compression system. The ICS system is comprised of an ICS
bolt and starnut. A clamp will NOT raise the bar height at all. - If you use an ICS system, the starnut will need to be
installed in the bars (have your local bike or scooter shop install it) - If you use SCS, your bars should not contain a slit. The SCS
compression system standard with a star nut.
Grips
- District grips only fit District bars
- Blunt grips fit most bars that we sell. Use District grips on
District bars. - ODI grips are our most popular grips and fit most bars that
we sell. Use District grips on District bars.
Clamp vs Compression
You can buy a clamp and ICS compression or a
compression system. There are various types of compression systems, which are
typically more effective than clamps and ICS.
Clamps/ICS (Inverted Compression System)
Clamps come in 2 sizes - standard and oversized. Clamps are used in conjunction with an ICS system. ICS compression consists of a compression bolt and star nut. The star nut installs in the bars. A compression bolt goes through the forks and screws into the star nut in the bars. The downside of using ICS is that the compression bolt unscrews from the star nut, making your headset loose. Use Loctite if you go this route. ICS is
the least expensive compression alternative. Please note that you cannot take your bars off the scooter without removing the front wheel and unscrewing the compression bolt in the forks.
If you use a clamp and ICS, you will require a slit in your bars so that your clamp can compress the bars against the forks. We recommend a 4 bolt clamp, as 2 and 3 bolt clamps can become loose over time.
SCS (Standard Compression System) - RECOMMENDED
SCS is our preferred method of compression. An SCS system is easier to install than ICS. A star nut is installed in the forks and the compression bolt goes through the compression cap in the SCS clamp and screws into the star nut in the fork. Some forks are too small to install the star nut in so you can put the compression bolt through the forks and screw it into the star nut, which will sit on top of the compression cap. Use Loctite with this application, as well, to keep the headset from coming loose. The bars will then just sit in the SCS and are not attached to the forks.
SCS will raise your bars 1 1/2 to 2 inches. When you purchase bars for use in conjunction with SCS, you may want to get them 2 inches shorter than normal. Bars should NOT contain a slit in the bottom.
HIC(Hidden Compression System)
HIC is the same concept as SCS, but the compression is hidden inside the bars. HIC bars will be oversized bars and do not require a clamp. HIC is a great compression option and is much lighter than SCS.
IHC (Integrated Headset Compression)
Blunt just came out with a very cool concept, called integrated headset compression. The fork comes with a shim that slides over the top of the fork. The shim contains a race on it that integrates into your headset, locking the headset in place. A compression bolt screws into the top of the IHC forks, locking the headset to the forks. You will typically use a 2, 3, or 4 bolt clamp in conjunction with IHC forks. However, if you have an existing SCS and don't want to buy a new clamp, you can pull the compression cap and star nut out of the SCS and it will work with the IHC forks. HIC bars also work in conjunction with the IHC forks.
TLC (Threadlock Compression)
Phoenix just came out with TLC forks. A threaded compression cap locks threads with the top of the TLC fork. TLC forks will only work with a 1 1/2" bar. Phoenix is the only company on the market offering a 1 1/2" bar at this time.
Deck
- You have 2 options when buying a deck: integrated or standard
- An integrated deck requires an integrated headset
(recommended) - A standard deck requires a standard headset.
- Decks come in multiple sizes; typical sizes are:
- 4 x 20
- 4.5 x 20 (recommended)
- Most decks that we sell are between 3 and 4 lbs.
Headset
- Headsets can be threaded or threadless. We do not carry
threaded headsets. Most forks and headsets that we sell are threadless. You
will need a threaded headset for threaded forks (Ultra Pro) and a threadless
headset for threadless forks. Almost every fork we sell is threadless. - Make sure that your headset matches your deck. If you
purchased an integrated deck, you need and integrated. Similarly, you will need
to purchase a standard headset for a standard deck. - Headsets can also be sealed or unsealed. Unsealed means the
bearings are loose in the headset, while sealed headsets have sealed bearings.
We recommend sealed headsets.
Wheels
- Wheels come in 2 sizes: 100mm or 110mm. 90 percent of the wheels that we sell are 100mm. Those riders
participating in competitions will typically purchase 110mm wheels because they
are faster. - All of the forks that we sell fit both 100mm and 110mm
wheels.
Bearings
- Wheels require bearings, which make the wheels spin. We sell
ABEC 7, 9, and 11 bearings. The higher the ABEC number, the faster you'll go.
Forks
- Forks can be threaded or threadless. The vast majority of the
forks that we sell are threadless and work in conjunction with a threadless
headset. If you purchase a threaded fork, you must also purchase a threaded
headset. - There are 2 types of forks: 1-piece aluminum and 2-piece
aluminum. 2-piece forks may be prone to break, as the joint is weak compared to
a solid one-piece fork. The 2-piece fork is a less expensive alternative to the
one-piece fork but the one-piece fork is much stronger.
Brake
- Most decks come standard with a brake. Check the product
description prior to purchasing a brake. You may or may not need one, depending
upon the deck that you purchase.
Grip Tape
- Grip tape keeps the rider from slipping off the deck. Grip
tape is grip tape.
